Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille struck two times late to seize a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
